Hi,
I am new to the board and have some worries about my daughter. We have been watching her thryroid for a few years now and things are starting to change. She has positive antibodies (for several years) Tp 220 and Tg 149 and in the past her tsh has been only slightly high at times but always returned to normal and she has not had any major sympotms.

Now her tsh is 19.27 and her t4 is low but just out of the normal range as well as the free thyroxine index. We are seeing the endo on Monday. He seems like a great doctor...she is away at college and he is squeezing her in so that she will feel ok for finals. She is a litle tired but nothing major and she has gained a few pounds...but again not major. Should I be worried? Is it normal to have these kinds of numbers and still feel relatively ok? Could this all be nothing?

She did have an untrasound on her thyroid two years ago that said the the isthumus was prominent but there was no significant goiter. Her pediatrician said it was nothing. I am feeling guilty that i didn't press the issue and just took the doctors word for it. Sorry this is so long and thanks for any advice!!!

Hi there and welcome to the Board. You sort of slip into adjusting to what is going on w/ TSH as it is very insideous.

You say Tp which means TPO (antimicrosomal antibodies) and Tg being Thyroglobulin??

Did the doctor run Free T4 and Free T3 which would be the unbound hormone available for cellular uptake?

Here are some labs that I recommend.....

TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin),TPO (antimicrosomal antibodies) TBII (thyrotropin-binding inhibitory immunoglobulin), Thyroglobulin Ab, ANA (antinuclear antibodies),TSH, Free T3, Free T4.

You can look this stuff up here and more.........

And here is a good site to learn about the different thyroid labs and what they mean.

Understanding thyroid lab tests......http://www.amarillomed.com/howto/#Thyroid

Is your daughter symptomatic in any other way? Goiter, tired, hair falling out, inability to retain information, sleeping well???

Is there autoimmune disease in the family?

Thank you for your response. The test results say free t4 (slightly low) and t3 uptake (normal), does this mean anything? and the antibody tests were thyroid peroxidase ab (high) and thyroglobulin ab (also high). There is no autoimmune disease that I know of in our family. She does have some sleep and anxiety issues but I have been chalking that up to her being a freshman in college! Thank for the lab sites, i will check them out.
