Hello,

Only recently diagnosed with Hashi's, I'm seventeen, and I now realise I have been suffering with this for over ten years!!! So many doctors have told my parents I'm just lazy, but finally a diagnosis (I'm embarrassed to say I have no idea what my levels were). Yay!

Anyway, I have two questions for you..
firstly,
When I went to the endo, he felt some abnormalities in my neck, and then during an ultrasound found four nodules. I'm not sure how big they are, (they looked damn big on the screen), but he said they are common with Hashi's etc. I know they are common and most likely benign, but should he have ordered a biopsy just in case? Can he know for certain that they are benign? I would prefer to be checked to be on the safe side.

And secondly,
Endometriosis and Hashimoto's. Is there a link? I have been to the doctor and and am most likely going to have a laparoscopy, would love to know if anyone has both or if they are related at all?

Thankyou!

Welcome to the board, Gabriella!! Yes; you definitely should have FNA. Actually, ultrasound does have it's place but it is subject to technical and operator error. For this reason, I also suggest a radioactive uptake scan.

There does appear to be a relationship between thyroid disease and endometriosis (autoimmune.)

Are you on thyroxine replacement yet?

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Okay I will go back to the endo and demand an FNA.

And yes, I've been on 50mg synthyroid daily for coming up to a month now, I haven't noticed a difference at all, and I'm due to be tested again very soon, so hopefully I can get to my right dose soon!

I hope you can get to your correct dose soon also and I think that is a sin the way you have been disregarded for 10 years! And falsely accused.

It is always a wonderful feeling to be "validated!"

For me, it was 20 years of being told I was fat, lazy and so on. Others here have similar stories.

So...................thank goodness you have a diagnosis and yes, push for FNA. Cancer is always of a concern and one should not rest easy until it is ruled out.

By the way, thyroid tissue can and does attach it's self to other organs such as the ovaries. This is called "ectopic thyroid" in case you want to do a Google on it.

It makes me wonder if you would benefit from a whole body scan. Look it up and tell me what you think.

I'm curious to know how the laparoscopy goes. I may need to get one of those, and am unsure of what to expect. I read that they do it under general anesthesia.
