My wife was diagnosed with Ha****oxicosis in October of 2005. She underwent the RAI treatment towards the end of that month.

She has been going through hell since then.

She's only up to .100mg of levothroid -- they started her very low.

This weekend she has had probably the worst episode in a year. Massive angina, cold limbs, incoherent for a period of about 40 hours.

She doesn't sleep well, which we know contributes to her overall discomfort, but shouldn't these kind of nasty episode be history by now?

Has anyone else had to deal with this?

We get the "oh, you'll just have to deal with it until the dose is right" thing from the doctor.

That doesn't sound right at all. When is the last time she was fully tested?

To me it sounds like either the RAI did not work or she is under or over medicated and/or there is another underlying problem.

Her thyroid should have been toast by now and unless the RAI did not work, it should be as simple as getting a full thyroid workup and adjusting the meds. 3 years is way too long to still be titrating her meds. She should be on a fixed dose by now.

My guess is RAI did not work which is not common but it does happen. I've read about people requiring as many as 4 or 5 doses of RAI before the thyroid finally dies off.

Angina on its own is cause for alarm. I've been hypo and hyper throughout much of my life and have had heart palps but no angina. I would seriously get her checked out maybe by a heart doc at this point.

Maybe a switch to Armour Thyroid might do the trick too. Some people just can't take straight T4 it seems and feel much better when they switch. Your doctor sounds like an idiot.
