I found this board after a google search while looking for answers.
I will try to keep the story short:rolleyes: ....
I am 41, have spent the last 3 years getting progressively tired, generally crappy, drepressed, hair loss, starving one moment, no appitite the next, sleep issues, not to mention the huge weight gain and receiving no assistance from my doctors. Initially I was told that because I was taking no HRT post total hysterectomy, I was having normal symptoms, so take HRT. Since I value a long life, I didnt want to and managed the symptoms so well till now.
My regular doc tested for thyroid, I was very low normal. She sent me for the nuclear uptake tests, nothing showed up so she humored me with 50mcg of synthroid.
With the symptoms getting worse (I work full time, am in grad school full time, have a husband, as well as a show horse so this was causing issues) I begged an appt with the best endo doc in town who thankfully took me with no referral.
At initial visit we do an ultrasound, 7 small nodules that most docs wouldnt bx due to size, but he did a bx the next week, and the dx of pappilary carcinoma came back. So, I am now 4 days post-op total thyroidectomy.
I was sent home with 100 mcg levothyroxine, os-cal, and a ton of questions.
I have honestly done fine post-op, no pain meds since I came home the morning after, swelling, but that is to be expected I suppose. the weird thing is today I had weekness in my legs and have started to have tingling in my limbs.
So, I am trying to compile a list of questions to ask, and would also like to hear how others have had success with life post-thyroidectomy, and also what can be done for weight loss.
Any input is appreciate, this has all happened so quick that I am a little lost.
