Hi Everyone!

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease yesterday :sad0049:, and i'm looking for some support/advice/guidence on what to expect. I've read a lot of articles online; I've gone to ithyroid.com, and I purchased Living Well With Graeves' Disease and Hyperthyroid. My Endo prescribed me Methimazole and a beta blocker, but I'd like to try the natural route first. I'm not opposed to taking the Methimazole, but I'd rather not take beta-blocker.

To be honest, I've never really thought about my thyroid before my doc told me my thyroid levels were high. It's nice that there is a forum where people can share their stories and advice.

Hi there, Stef and welcome to the Board! I was never offered a beta-blocker and for that reason, I now have permanent heart damage.

I am a big believer in holistic and natural approaches but w/ Graves', which can be and often is life-threatening, I do suggest you follow the more traditional medical approach.

That said, the ball is in your court and I for one will support you no matter what your decision is.

What symptoms do you have that points to Graves'? Have you had a radioactive uptake scan? What are your labs like and what antibodies tests have been run?

Hi StefB,
I know how you feel about the beta blocker, but honestly I am really glad I am on it. My anxiety, and heart racing has decreased significantly. Now I don't feel like I'm being spooked, or running a race all the time.

Welcome to the board.
