Hypothyroidsim with nodules?

Hello,
I'm new here -- glad to find these boards. I have had nodules for several years now -- 5 of them of various sizes distributed throughout my thyroid. I have a good endo. who monitors them. I have ultrasounds periodically and have had 3 rounds of needle biopsies that all came back benign.

My question is -- my blood work comes back normal every year, and other that thickening at the neck have no symptoms from these nodules. My last bloodwork in September was normal and the needle biopsies in February were all normal.

But in the last month to six weeks I've started losing hair -- to the point where the drain is clogged every time I take a shower. Both my hairdresser and my husband have commented. I'm also gaining weight, despite increased exercise and watching what I eat. I thought at first it might be due to the statin drug my primary care doc put me on because my cholesterol was high. Oh, and my hands are always freezing -- strangers who shake hands with me comment on how icy they are.

I really didn't think anything of this until my dog started losing hair and the vet diagnosed a thyroid problem. Then I started wondering if something is up with my thyroid.

I have an appt. with my endo this week to discuss -- I'm just wondering if there's anyone else here with nodules and normal blood work for years who experienced a sudden shift into hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Hi there and welcome!

Could you please post your most recent lab tests with the ranges? We need the ranges as different lab use different ranges.

Normal range does not mean the numbers are at a place that is good for you.

Also, have you had any antibodies' tests?

TSI (thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin),TPO (antimicrosomal antibodies) TBII (thyrotropin-binding inhibitory immunoglobulin), Thyroglobulin Ab, ANA (antinuclear antibodies), (thyroid hormone panel) TSH, Free T3, Free T4.

You can look this stuff up here and more.........

Someone may come along that has had your experience. I have not but wanted to welcome you.

Thanks for the welcome. I do not have copies of my September labs. They were done as part of my annual physical with my PC doc. I anticipate that when I see my endo on Wednesday he will order new labs. I am sure before all they tested was T4 and TSH.

Ah; well.............................

You may wish to start your own folder for reference. This way you can note the lab results where you feel good and where you feel badly.
